Navigating Turbulent Environments: Exploring Resilience in SMEs through Complex Adaptive Systems Perspective

This study seeks to explore how owner–managers of small and medium-sized enterprises navigate a constantly changing turbulent environment following traumatic experience they build resilience in their organizations by drawing upon memories through complex adaptive system lens. Specifically, this investigates the major factors shaping management strategies SMEs operating infrastructure construction sector North Cyprus, where foreign aid/the patron country is primary source financing therefore driver strategies. To gather data, semistructured interviews were conducted with grade 1 SMEs, who can participate internationally financed public projects. A qualitative approach using thematic analysis was adopted, findings indicate that most influential factor Cyprus macro characteristics sociopolitical environment.
